I was born in the U.S. and raised in an English speaking family. I am lucky to have English as my native language, and I want to share my knowledge of the English language with you.
I have always loved everything about language: reading, writing, creating and reading poetry, listening to and reading music lyrics, watching and enjoying T.V. and movie writing, and, as an adult, learning two foreign languages. As an English tutor, English language coach and pronunciation trainer, I am able to share my love of language and language learning with my students every day. I want to help YOU love the English language too, dear reader! English was a gift I received from my family, and I want to give you the power of speaking English too. So today, you can be part of my 'family,' and practice the American pronunciation of this word:
It's true! I really do want to help you. I want to help you to sound more like a native English speaker. I've got a free pronunciation mini-course set up for you (sign up for free here!) and now I've created this YouTube series on American pronunciation.
I will release a new video every Wednesday, along with the transcript here on my blog, and extra, behind-the-scenes English notes if you sign up to my list. Here's my first video in this series, on the pronunciation of 'family.' I chose the word 'family' because it's such a common word, and it's also REALLY commonly mispronounced. Check out the correct and more native pronunciation of 'family' here in the video:

..... Hey!! Wednesday Word! Here we go! All right. Welcome to your "Wednesday Word," my new series on American pronunciation. I choose these words because they're words that I commonly hear mispronounced and I wanna help YOU sound like a native English speaker. Today's word is...FAMILY! A lot of people like talking about their family; some people don't but it's a common word that we use and a very common conversation. So I wanted to share with you today the most common pronunciations of the word family. First I'll tell you what I usually hear as the mistake: I usually hear people say, "FAM-MEE-LEE." They pronounce the 'M-I' like a "MEE." When actually, a native English speaker tends to say, "FAM-lee" ...without even pronouncing the 'I' at all. Go ahead and try it with me: FAM - lee FAM - lee It really only has two syllables. FAM-lee FAM-lee There's another way that you can pronounce this word: it sounds like, 'FAM-uh-lee' The 'M-I' will sound like a 'muh' It's a very short little sound. 'muh' m' FA-muh-lee You can repeat after me, 'FAM-uh-lee' All right. Now let's try a sample sentence. This is a common sentence, so it's a good one to know. "How many people are in your family?" "How many people are in your family?" All right! Well, that's all for today! Let me know if there is another word that you would like to hear. I'm just starting this new series, "Wednesday Word," so put your requests in the comment box below and I'll see if I can add it to my list and maybe your suggestion will be added to one of my Wednesday series' videos! All right, subscribe if you want to get all of these directly sent to you. And also make sure to join my email list if you want to get access to a FREE mini-pronunciation course that I have available. It's great. It has some of the most common mistakes that people make. And just doing some of these simple things that I talk about in my course will help you sound more like a native English speaker. All right! I'm Sabrina! I'll talk to you later. Bye! ..... Is it common to talk about family in your culture?
